Internet Variety - Music & Dance Online company takes carnatic guru home Our Bureau
Chennai , July 11 Indiamusicinfo.com has launched an interactive online carnatic music learning facility. Carnatic musician Neyveli Santhanagopalan will provide recorded lessons that can be downloaded for a price. "This is the first e-learning portal in the world to provide a feedback mechanism for learners," said Bharath Subramanium, Chief Executive Officer, Indiamusicinfo.com. New Zealand-based Springdoo has developed a Web-based audio and video feedback system that lets the learner record his/her voice in real time. Recordings of up to 10 minutes can be sent as video/audio emails for feedback. The lessons will have information on aspects such as krithi, raga and swaram. They will be available as downloads in Windows Media Audio (WMA) format. Each user has a unique licence code to access the lessons online. Four modules, each containing four-hour long lessons are available for a fee of Rs 450. Individual songs/lessons are available for Rs 150 each. "This portal has been developed after three years of research and the quality of music has been retained close to live singing," said Santhanagopalan. The company expects around 300 users in the first year. There are plans to provide customised e-learning modules for every user and an audio magazine with anecdotes on music. Rhymes and bhajans are also planned for children. "We plan to offer certificate courses and evaluate students on the lines of Trinity College, London," said Santhanagopalan. Indiamusicinfo.com is a six-year-old Web site that also contains interviews, album reviews, artiste biographies and music downloads besides the other music promotions.
