Letters Development of hill people
This is with reference to "A Swiss model to make the hills come alive" (Business Line, July 10): In most areas people live in extreme poverty and ignorance. Besides, smuggling, degradation of forests and so on, the new problem of development is displacing them. So a comprehensive policy taking into account all factors needs to be worked out. There cannot be any excuse for not taking steps to give them basic facilities and education. In the event of displacement they should be made stakeholders so that they receive the benefits. A.
