Karachi Express Service to touch Pipavav

Our Bureau

Kolkata , July 6

Effective July 8, Mitsui OSK Line (MOL) will upgrade its Karachi Express Service (KEX) for Pakistan, to cover Pipavav port in Gujarat. This is part of MOL's efforts to step up inbound, outbound and intra-Asian container services in what is considered a rapidly growing region.

MOL offers KEX in partnership with Singapore-based Samudera Shipping. In all, three vessels of 850-TEUs capacity each are being deployed on the route — MOL operating two and Samudera one. The service starts with MOL Silver Fern departing Singapore on July 8 and the port rotation is: Singapore-Qasim International Container Terminal (QICT, near Karachi)-Pipavav-Colombo-Singapore.

The transit time from Singapore to QICT will be eight days and to Pipavav, nine.

At present, MOL offers four weekly services from Singapore to Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT) of Jawaharlal Nehru port, and these services provide fast links to the shipping line's services to Japan.
