Indian, Italian Railways sign MoU

The Union Railway Minister, Mr Lalu Prasad, signed a MoU with Italian Railways on setting up a Joint Working Group to identify projects of mutual interests.

The Joint Working Group would have three representatives from each side, an official release said here on Tuesday . The MoU signed on Monday in Rome, would provide an institutionalised and structured exchange of information in different areas of interest.

This would enable Indian Railways to receive latest technological information on any on-going research and development in various fields such as maintenance, safety and security, the release said. The Minister also met the Italian Infrastructure Minister, Mr Antonio Dietro, and invited him to visit India. The Railway Minister proposed that Italian companies should join hands with IRCON and RITES for joint bidding in the field of construction and consultancy in other countries. He also invited the Italian Railway Team to visit India in August 2006 to achieve further progress in implementing the agreement between the two countries. The Minister will be proceeding to Hanover, Germany, it said.
