Outlook Industry & Economy - Natural Calamities States - Maharashtra Fiat shifts cars from Kurla to Ranjangaon Our Bureau
The company has taken preventive measures in terms of infrastructure and production management, logistics and co-ordination with municipal authorities.
Mumbai , July 3 Fiat India has shifted 400 cars from its Kurla plant to its greenfield facility in Ranjangaon. It undertook this activity on account of the unprecedented rains in July last year due to which its Kurla plant had suffered considerable losses. Thus in order to avoid further damages, the car maker has monsoon disaster prevention plan to deal with contingencies arising out of heavy downpours.
Preventive measures
This includes preventive measures in terms of infrastructure and production management, logistics and co-ordination with municipal authorities. All pits and drains within the plant's premises have been cleaned. Gutters leading to the municipal nullahs have also been cleaned with the help of municipal authorities while heavy-duty pumps have been installed in low-lying areas to pump out clogged water from within the premises, especially from manufacturing shops. Motors and electrical equipment meant for production have been relocated to higher levels. These measures will ensure a continuous outflow of water from within the factory premises. Cars at the Ranjangaon factory have been stationed in enclosed spaces. The shifting of fully built-up units will continue on a daily basis throughout the monsoon. All materials within the stores and warehouses have been shifted to higher levels in closed sheds.
