Engineering fair at Peelamedu

Coimbatore , July 2

The ninth edition of the international industrial trade fair on engineering and automation, `Intec 2006', organised by the Coimbatore district small industries association (Codissia), will open here on July 7.

The week-long fair being held at the Intec trade fair complex at Peelamedu will be staged on a 7,600-sq metre area. Due to good response from the participating companies, which have sought large display areas this time and on account of the current boom seen in the engineering and manufacturing automation sectors, the fair organisers have stepped up the floor area in the exhibition venue. They have added an additional 2,300 sq metre floor space for this year's show, according to, Mr K.V. Ganapathy, the Chairman of the Intec-2006 organising committee.

A close to 400 participants cutting across the country will display their products and services in about 460 stalls. The fair will also draw overseas companies from 11 countries, including Japan, Germany, Italy, Canada, Thailand, Switzerland and China. The Tamil Nadu Minister for Power and Rural Industries, Mr Arcot N. Veerasamy, will inaugurate the fair.

Briefing the press persons here, Mr Ganapathy said about two lakh visitors are expected for the Codissia's flagship fair, which has gained prominence in the national trade fair itinerary. Nearly 60 per cent of the participating companies in this year's fair are new entrants.

As part of the value addition to the fair events, seminars will be hosted at the fair venue in afternoons. The previous international fair, Intec-2005, generated business worth about Rs 500 crore.
