Kolkata , June 28

Titan Industries Ltd proposes to set up two exclusive Tanishq outlets in the east coast of the US within the next six months, according to Mr C.K. Venkataraman, Chief Operating Officer of Tanishq. This would be the first time that Tanishq would have its exclusive branded jewellery outlets in any country abroad. Hitherto, the company's product offerings were retailed in select overseas market through "shop-in-shop" formats.

Addressing newspersons after the inauguration of Tanishq's first "concept store" here in Kolkata, Mr Venkataraman said the US was the largest jewellery market in the world and Tanishq was hopeful of positioning itself "in the right space in that market". The target customer would comprise Indians in the US and mainstream Americans as well.

Concept store

Tanishq today launched the first-of-its-kind concept store at Fort Knox, the exclusive jewellery mall in the heart of the city. The concept store is stated to reflect the new identity of Tanishq - the "Revitaliser of Tradition". A total of five such concept stores would be rolled out across the nation by the end of the year at an estimated investment of Rs 10 crore. It is hoped that the idea of concept stores would further strengthen Tanishq's brand identity in the jewellery retail space.

To open more outlets

Mr Venkataraman said the company proposes to augment the total number exclusive Tanishq showrooms across the country from 85 at present to 120 within the next three years.

In the year ended March 31, 2006, Tanishq sales stood at Rs 750 crore. The target for the current fiscal has been pegged at Rs 1,000 crore. Tanishq jewellery is also exported, especially to West Asia. About five per cent of Tanishq's total sales are accounted for by exports.
