Cambridge Solutions posts loss on one-time charge

PAT, before extraordinary items, rose 53% to Rs 27 crore

Cambridge Solutions Ltd, formerly known as Scandent Solutions Corporation Ltd, has posted a net loss of Rs 18.6 crore for the financial year 2006 after it took a hit of one-time charges of Rs 31.9 crore related to merger expenses. Scandent merged with BPO firm Cambridge Services Holdings LLC to form Cambridge Solutions Ltd.

Cambridge reported total revenues of Rs 1,180 crore for fiscal 2006 as compared to Rs 243.2 crore in the previous year. Operating income after extraordinary items and one-time charges stood at Rs 78.8 crore, up 134 per cent over the previous year's Rs 34 crore.

Profit after tax before the extraordinary items and a one-time charge was Rs 27 crore, up 53 per cent over the previous year's Rs 18.2 crore, said a company press release.

The company expects a strong year of growth building momentum across the year. Cambridge expects its revenues for the June quarter in the current financial year to be between Rs 349.6 crore and Rs 368 crore.

Profit after tax is expected to be between Rs 16.1 crore and Rs 18.4 crore for the first quarter. Scandent shares stayed flat and closed at Rs 114.85 on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

The shares have gained by about 10 per cent in the past week.

In fiscal 2005-06, the IT operations accounted for 27 per cent of the company's revenues, while the remaining 73 per cent came from the BPO operations. Three core verticals - banking, financial services and insurance, government and manufacturing & logistics, contributed 79.6 per cent, 6.7 per cent and 13.7 per cent of revenues respectively. The top 10 clients contributed 34 per cent of the firm's revenues.
