The Pune-based Ruby Hall Clinic, a multi-speciality hospital, said on Wednesday that it is geared up to unveil a Rs 45-crore new cancer treatment unit.
The Kamalnayan Bajaj Cancer Centre at the Zavaray Poonawala Cancer Building will be a 36-bed day care unit, with an ICU and six operation theatres, and spread over 70,000 sq ft.
The hospital has entered into a 10-year collaboration with Siemens for all technology and product developments. This agreement has resulted in the installation of a linear accelerator with image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) at the cancer centre. This agreement identifies Ruby Hall Clinic as a "Siemens beta site," the fifth site in the world, and Asia's only such site.
"New techniques will be developed jointly with Siemens, and our experience will be built into the product," said Mr Bomi Bhote, CEO, Ruby Hall Clinic.
The IGRT's 3-D imaging focuses only on those cells affected by cancer, as opposed to the traditional method which eradicates all the cells in the area, thus protecting the healthy cells.
The hospital, meanwhile, is also planning to set up five satellite cancer centres in Maharashtra, the first of which will be located at Aurangabad.
