India could see Turkish investment in construction of hotels and cooperation in sourcingbuilding materials such as marble.
India could invest in oil fields, IT and multimedia, said the Turkish Ambassador, Mr Halil Akinci, at a meeting organised by Consultative Committee of City Chambers of Commerce. India could look at importing hazelnut and olive oil from Turkey, he said. Turkey produces 80 per cent of the world's hazelnut.
As part of promoting investments in Turkey, the nation is opening 23 foreign offices in 40 countries. Turkish airlines will be looking at New Delhi and Chennai as destinations, apart from the existing service to Mumbai.
Turkey's largest electrical and electronics appliances company, VESTEL, was planning to invest in India, said a press release. However, traders present at the meeting told Business Line that they were disappointed that the Ambassador had ignored issues concerning potential sectors such as agricultural products and food processing, where both nations see opportunity.
