VETA's home-study English pack

VETA, a South India-based English language training provider with 90 centres across India, launched a home study pack for English training here on Tuesday. Called `VETA Reach', the product would be sold by VETA's existing students, who would have to invest in the product and earn a percentage on each unit sold, according to Mr V. Rajagopalan, Chairman and Principal, VETA. He said that the study pack costs Rs 750, and the student would get paid about Rs 125 from that sum for each product sold. The company believes that using people who have been through the VETA course to sell the study pack would help convince potential buyers of the quality. It expects to sell one lakh study packs a year.

The packs are available in nine regional languages. VETA plans to expand to 300 centres by 2009. The company has also received certification in Singapore, and is looking at setting up centres in Malaysia, Singapore, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. International centres would be managed on the master franchisee model, said the company. Mr Rajagopal said that the spoken English training market in India is Rs 1,500 crore, and that VETA has a share of Rs 60 crore in that. The company plans to grow to about Rs 150 crore in the coming year.
