Internet `Make NIXI more effective' Our Bureau
New Delhi , May 30 In a bid to improve the effectiveness of the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), the TRAI today recommended various measures including setting up NIXI nodes in all State capitals. The TRAI said that the recommendations are based on observations that a limited number of ISPs have joined the NIXI node. "Major problems identified for this are non-interconnected (standalone) NIXI nodes and also some ISPs not announcing all their routes on NIXI, which is resulting in a lot domestic Internet traffic still being routed via US/abroad." It added that the cost of leased lines required for connecting ISP's node to NIXI node is also holding back smaller ISPs from non-metros to join NIXI nodes at metros.
