SBBJ agri credit rises 28.4 pc

State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur (SBBJ) has registered 28.4 per cent increase in agricultural credit to Rs 2,848 crore in 2005-06.

Agriculture credit as a percentage of net bank credit (NBC) at 18.04 per cent was above 18 per cent prescribed by the Reserve Bank of India, Mr A.K. Purwar, Chairman of the State Bank Group, said at the bank's 45th AGM.

He added that SBBJ had recorded an all-time high growth in business during the year. Total business increased by Rs 6,496 crore to touch Rs 37,790 crore. While total deposits increased by Rs 2,656 crore to Rs 21,694 crore, total advances rose by Rs 3,840 crore to Rs 16,096 crore.

Stating that SBBJ had been able to bring down its NPAs substantially, Mr Purwar said that the gross NPAs improved from 3.26 per cent at the end of last year to 2.42 per cent at the end of March 2006.

Priority sector advances rose by Rs 1,401 crore to touch Rs 6,970 crore, constituting 43.5 per cent of NBC, against the benchmark of 40 per cent.
