The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has said that the State would step up investment in the power sector transmission and distribution (T&D) network.

Ahead of laying the foundation stone for the 400 KV substation at Gajwel in Medak district on Tuesday, Dr Reddy, according to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office, said that the State is planning to add one 400 KV Substation in every district to meet the growing demand for power and to improve quality and reliability and ensure right voltages.

5-year outlay

The investment in T&D for the five-year-period (2004-05 to 2008-09) in the State will be Rs 11,487 crore.

The State Government is also strengthening the rural infrastructure, which will provide better voltages and improve reliability.

An investment of Rs 3,725 crore has been made in strengthening T&D in the last two years.

AP Transco has now planned an investment of Rs 7,762 crore in the next three years for further improving the network to meet the increasing demand, particularly in rural areas. Out of this, Rs 5,292 crore is planned for distribution and Rs 2,470 crore for transmission.
