DD to launch Malayalam radio channel

Prasar Bharati Corporation will launch a 24-hour Malayalam radio channel on the direct-to-home mode by the end of this month.

The programmes will be available on the DD Direct Plus Service, according to Mr S.K. Sarma, Chief Executive Officer of Prasar Bharati.

Mr Sharma was here to inaugurate the organisation's marketing division for AIR and DD programmes based at AIR complex. This is Prasar Bharati.s seventh such division in the country.

`Katha Sarita'

He said that a new series in Hindi, titled `Katha Sarita', based on renowned literary works in regional languages, would be shown on the national network every Sunday. This is aimed at promoting the nation's rich cultural heritage.

Doordarshan's DTH service would be expanded this year and the number of channels increased from 33 to 51. The number of radio channels would be increased from 12 to 20, Mr Sharma said.

Besides, a special grassroots-level publicity drive would be launched to introduce the DTH service in those areas where TV penetration is below the national average, he added.
