The Government on Wednesday asked television channels to adhere to the May 10 deadline for submission of completed applications with processing fee for permission to continue downlink of their television programmes.
"The downlink guidelines announced on November 11 last year lay down 180 days for completion of all registration formalities," an official statement states.
The guidelines specify that on the date of submission of application, the applicant company must have the requisite net worth and continue to satisfy this requirement thereafter also. The guidelines specify that for downlinking one channel, the company's required net worth is Rs 1.5 crore, while for every additional channel Rs 1 crore.
Besides, the applicant is required to provide facility for online monitoring of content beamed. Further the system should be able to store the data for 90 days, and this should be made available to the Government at any time at a pre-designated place.
The guideline points out that companies need not set up new facilities for this but could authorise any of their Multi Service Operators (MSO's) or head-end operators to provide it.
The Government has also clarified that while 100 per cent foreign direct investment (FDI) was allowed in the broadcasting sector, this cannot happen through the automatic route.
