Supply Chain Management Concor plans to reissue tender for 900 flat wagons Mamuni Das
New Delhi , May 4 Container Corporation of India Ltd (Concor) plans to reissue its tender and invite bids, with modified conditions, for acquisition of 900 flat wagons from private players. As per the modified conditions, Concor would supply wheels to the private wagon manufacturer. The company had to discharge the tender as the lowest bidder modified his position after the submission of bids, said Mr Rakesh Mehrotra, Managing Director. The bids would be invited within a fortnight. It is also finalising its order for 1,125 wagons, which would be awarded to the Railways' workshops.
Wagon order
Concor imports wheels for wagon orders placed in the Railways' workshops, given the shortage of rail wheels in the country. The company is in talks with 7-8 wheel manufacturers to firm up its wheel order. "We will have to spend about Rs 250 crore for 900 wagons and Rs 300 crore for the 1,125-wagon order," said Mr Mehrotra, adding that all these orders are for 2007-08. Earlier, given the wheel and axle supply shortage situation in the country, Concor used to acquire wheels (from abroad) only for the Railways' workshops. But for the above-mentioned ongoing tender process, private companies also said that the timing of their wagon delivery would depend on when they get the wheels. The public sector unit already has pending orders for 1,400 wagons. "We expect delivery of about 25 rakes this fiscal," said Mr Mehrotra.
