Qatar Airways to open premium class terminal at Doha airport

Vimala Vasan

Abu Dhabi , May 4

Qatar Airways has unveiled the details of First and Business Class terminal now under construction at the Doha International Airport.

The exclusive building will feature innovative facilities to provide its customers comfort and hospitality prior to boarding their flight. This is part of a $200-million expansion at the current airport, according to a statement from the airline.

Speaking at the ongoing Arabian Travel Market in Dubai, the Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer, Mr Akbar Al Baker, said the new facilities would cater for business and leisure travellers flying in the premium cabins.

Qatar Airways manages and operates the Doha International Airport. It will also be responsible for the new premium class terminal, for exclusive use by Qatar Airways passengers departing for their international flights.

By early next year, the number of parking bays at Doha International Airport will more than double from 19 to 40. Qatar Airways is the airport's largest customer, operating at least 90 per cent of flights.

The airline, which operates 46 all-Airbus jets, will boost its fleet by a further 18 aircraft during 2006 and 2007. The airport expansion will help facilitate the airline's growth. The airport terminal expansion is due to be completed by June.
