Kolkata , May 3 As part of its ongoing efforts to step up co-operation with institutes of excellence in the Asia Pacific region, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with National University of Singapore (NUS). To begin with, the MoU will provide for exchange of students and faculty from both the institutes. Addressing a news conference here on Wednesday, Prof Shekhar Chaudhuri, Director of IIMC, said that the institute had forged partnerships with 32 business schools across the US, Europe, Asia and Australia. The partnership with NUS, which has been ranked 22nd in the world and third in Asia by Times Higher Education Supplement world university rankings, was one more step to build partnerships in the Asia Pacific region. Prof Chaudhuri said, "Thanks to the MoU with NUS, students and faculty from both the institutes would be able to learn more about each other and shall get more opportunities to work together." He added, "Singapore and India are today poised at a very opportune moment in history. Though the two countries are geographically close to each other, there has not been a commensurate level of interaction in the past. Today, however, the situation has changed for the better. India is strongly pursuing its `Look East Policy' as a result of which we are seeing a dramatic increase in the level of interaction between the two countries. On the other hand, there has been a considerable increase in Singapore's interest in India. We believe that, as a result of this change in the relationship between the two countries, both the institutions will stand to gain considerably from this partnership".
