Power States - Maharashtra Dabhol plant Block II to be operational soon Our Bureau
MR CHANDAN ROY
Mumbai , May 2 The Dabhol power plant produced 50 MW on Tuesday and attempts are being made to scale it up to 75 MW on the second day of its operation, said, Mr Chandan Roy, Chairman and Managing Director, Ratnagiri Gas and Power Pvt Ltd. The block-II of the plant having a 740-MW capacity would be operational soon. Mr Roy said the repair work on the single buoy moorings that connects naphtha-carrying ship with the plant has been completed. We have placed an order of 25,000 kilolitres of naphtha with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, he said. " The Maharashtra Maritime Board with the help of an independent consultant has certified our repair of the buoy," Mr Roy said. Mr Girish Sant, energy sector activist and member of Pune-based NGO, Prayas, said that he welcomes the restarting of the plant "as the money and assets of the country, which were laying idle for many years would be finally put to good use." However, Mr Sant pointed that about 100 MW of power, which is being currently produced by Dabhol plant, would not give any significant relief from load shedding in the State, he said. Mr Sant said that restarting block-I would be challenging as the turbines have suffered some damage.
