$1.3-b worth biz generated at Hannover

Hannover Messe 2006, the industrial technology fair, ended on Friday witnessing $1.3 billion worth of signed deals and potential business enquiries.
This includes the $1-billion deal between Kingfisher Airlines and Airbus, the MoU for which was signed here, the Indian Ambassador to Germany, Ms Meera Shankar, said.
As India was the partner country this year, it had the largest number of stalls at 343. China followed with 250 companies and then came Italy (210), Switzerland (138) and Turkey (103). Turkey took over as the partner country for Hannover 2007.
Speaking at the press conference here, Mr Rakesh Shah, Chairman, Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC), said, "Auto-components and engineering exports to Germany would double over three years from the present level of $550 million. He said, "About $100 million worth of business was potentially generated during the fair," including $20 million firm deals, and enquiries with potential business of $80 million.
VDMA, Germany's apex association for machinery manufacturers, tied up with EEPC for improving trade between India and Germany.
Talks with Volkswagen
The West Bengal Government officials, meanwhile, are in talks with Volkswagen. "We would like Volkswagen to set up manufacturing unit in West Bengal," said a top official.
Mr Ajay Khanna, CEO, India Brand Equity Foundation, said, "This (India Everywhere) campaign's next stop will be Tokyo for the Indo-Japan Business Summit in June 2006.
