Tyre manufacturer, J.K. Industries Ltd (JKI) has reported a net profit of Rs 4.5 crore for the second quarter ended March 31, 2006 compared to a net loss of Rs 1.99 crore recorded in the same period during the previous year. Net sales for the period under review increased to Rs 625.04 crore, reflecting a 27.48-per-cent increase over the net sales of Rs 490.30 crore recorded during the quarter ended March 31, 2005. Operating profit for the quarter ended March 31, 2006 stood at Rs 40.60 crore as against an operating profit of Rs 28.03 crore recorded in the same quarter in the previous year. A statement issued by JKI said that this performance has come about despite unabated increase in input costs. The increase in prices of petroleum products and natural rubber has largely contributed to the increased costs and this has affected margins, the statement said.
