Siemens net profit up 49 pc

Siemens Ltd has reported a 49 per cent increase in its net profit for the quarter ended March 31, 2006 to touch Rs 118 crore, as against Rs 79 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. During the quarter, the company's sales turnover stood at Rs 1,115 crore, representing a 56 per cent increase over the corresponding period of the previous year. New orders for the quarter jumped by 72 per cent to touch Rs 1,591 crore, as compared to Rs 925 crore for the corresponding quarter. In the last two quarters, the company received three large orders in the power sector amounting to Rs 3,648 crore.
