Chennai , April 25 Mauritius-based Rogers Group, a $300-million company engaged in aviation, hotels, leisure, logistics and shipping, is looking to tie up with Indian companies in the near future, said Mr Philippe Espitalier-Noel, Executive Director, Rogers Group. Mr Espitalier-Noel, who was in Chennai along with a 15-member delegation to explore business opportunities, told the press and the members of the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry that the group was looking at joint ventures in India. He said three-star and budget hotels offer scope for business in India.
`Veranda Resorts'
The group manages six hotels under the brand name `Veranda Resorts' in Mauritius. It also developed a hotel in the deluxe-class category recently. Another area that will offer opportunities is the IT sector, said Mr Espitalier-Noel. The company has set up Mauritius' first call centre, which yields over $100 million business. But staffing is an issue there, he said. The company has a critical mass of 120 people working on the hardware and software platforms, but there is a huge gap as far as programmers are concerned, he said. Mr Espitalier-Noel said trade between Mauritius and India should get a boost once the preferential trade agreement between the two countries comes through. He expects it to happen within the next six months.
