Outlook Suzuki targets one-lakh bike sales in first year Our Bureau
Bangalore , April 19 Suzuki Motorcycle India said on Wednesday that it plans to sell 5 lakh two-wheelers during the first phase of its operations but did not give any time frame. The company's operation head for marketing and administration, Mr Shigeru Matsuda, told newspersons that during the first year, it plans to sell over one lakh two-wheelers in the country. Suzuki has launched the 125 cc Heat and its upgraded version, Zeus. "We plan to launch more of our models in a phased manner," Mr Matsuda said. "Suzuki has over 100 two-wheeler models in its stable. He said the company also plans to launch scooters at a later date. Suzuki's department head for sales and marketing, Mr Deepak Pandey said India was the fastest growing market for two-wheelers after China. During 2005-06, nearly 7 million two-wheelers were sold and by 2010, sales are expected to cross 10 million, he said.
Dealership
Suzuki has so far opened 30 dealerships in the country and by May end it plans to open 40 more. It has identified 300 centres for dealerships, Mr Pandey said. The Japanese motorcycle maker has acquired 37 acres near Delhi for its factory. The current capacity of the plant is 1.2 lakh units a year. The capacity can be expanded to 5 lakh units a year.
