Hyderabad , April 16

The Minister of State for Defence, Mr M. Pallam Raju, has called for setting up of an agency to work for coordination and channelise research output of civilian and defence organisations.

The proposed agency could be developed on the lines of the National Institute of Smart Governance, he said.

He was addressing a gathering at the launch of Hyderabad chapter of Indian Semiconductor Association (ISA) and The Indus Entrepreneurs semi-conductor (special interest group) SIG here on Sunday.

He pointed out that though the civilian and defence organisations conducted advanced research in a variety of sectors, the research findings were not being productised.

Big investments

Referring to huge investments being made in the hi-tech industries and projects like Fab City, he called upon the industry to utilise the facility to the optimum level and come out with globally-accepted products.

Mr Rajendra Kumar Khare, Chairman of ISA, said that next 18 months were very crucial for the Fab City project.

Citing a study, he said the electronic appliances market would go up to $360 billion by 2015. Of this, VLSI and semiconductor segments would contribute nearly $200 billion.
