APC offers online learning modules

L.N. Revathy

Coimbatore , April 14

APC has launched `Data Centre University' (DCU) to create "a cadre of trained, educated, experienced professionals in the data centre NCPI (Network Critical Physical Infrastructure) space with an IT perspective."

Mr Pankaj Sharma, Country Manager, APC, told Business Line that the company's research indicated a huge mismatch between IT (computing space) and NCPI (the foundation layer on which technology rests), necessitating the need to groom such professionals.

An APC case study on downtime failures also showed that more than 60 per cent of failures in the NCPI space happened due to `human error'.

The IT teams in organisations are not geared to "build, design or operate the NCPI layer. They neither understand the facility around dual-core and blade servers nor the cooling technology. Problems crop up because of roaming hotspots and server failures," he said.

APC has launched its virtual learning platform to bridge this gap, he said. "Professionals can join the courses online by logging on to www.datacenteruniversity.com. We have currently uploaded 6 to 7 modules," he said and added that APC planned to offer certification courses.

APC currently does not charge course/subscription fee for access to the site or joining the courses online.

He said the exercise aims to share and transfer knowledge.
