Iodised salt will be sold at Rs 4 a kg as against the market price of Rs 8 and tamarind at Rs 23 a kg (Rs 38 in the open market) through fair price shops.
Hyderabad , April 12 The State Agriculture Department through various arms will step up market intervention to shore up the prices of certain farm produce, while also setting up a committee to monitor the prices. Addressing a press conference here, after a review meeting with the State Chief Minister, the Agriculture Minister, Mr N. Raghuveera Reddy, said that pulses and tamarind are beginning to get good prices as the crop has not done very well in some of the traditional growing areas in other States. This meant better prices for farmers in the State. However, in some cases, there were concerns over remunerative prices and steps have been initiated to activate the market intervention mechanism. Mr Reddy said iodised salt and seedless tamarind would be sold to cardholders at reduced prices through fair price shops. Iodised salt will be sold at Rs 4 a kg as against the market price of Rs 8 and tamarind at Rs 23 a kg (Rs 38 in the open market) through fair price shops. While the distribution of ration cards would be completed by May 15, ration shops will also sell pulses like tuar dal, blackgram and greengram whose production in the State had increased 33 per cent this year. Their prices had increased due to lower production in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, the Minister said.
