Hyderabad , April 10

Encouraged by increasing tourist inflows from India, Singapore Tourism Board has now targeted to attract seven lakh tourists as against 5.8 lakh last year.

Showcasing Singapore to tour operators and travel agents here on Monday, Ms Siew-Kheng Kang, Regional Director (South Asia, Middle East and Africa), said apart from leisure segment, Singapore as a trade centre was also attracting people from across the world.

"More and more businessmen visit Singapore to make it their base to get access to South East Asia," she said.

She was in Hyderabad in connection with a two-day promotional campaign titled `Uniquely Singapore Festival'.

She said attractive packages ranged from Rs 8,000 were on offer by airlines and tour operators.

Ms Bridget Goh, Area Director (Southern India, Sri Lanka and Maldives), said last year a record 8.9 million tourists visited her country, with India occupying the fifth position after Indonesia, China, Australia and Japan.
