Letters Hunger strike
Eight days after Ms Medha Patkar went on hunger strike, she was arrested on a charge of attempted suicide and taken to hospital. As the issues raised by her have national importance, the following questions need to be asked and answered by the authorities concerned. Did the MP concerned meet with her to persuade her against the strike and assure her that he will have the issue debated and decided by the Lok Sabha? Why did it take eight days for the police to discover that Ms Patkar was attempting suicide? The Union Minister for Water Resources is reported to have met Ms Patkar during her hunger strike. What was the objective of this meeting? Was he empowered to make any offer to her to resolve the issue? Why did he fail in his mission? I think the nation is entitled to know these facts, under the Right to Information Act. C. V. K. Moorthy
