SBI strike: Union opposes move to shift jobs

Our Bureau

Kolkata , April 6

Any attempt by the Union Government to shift jobs from State Bank of India (SBI), which has been crippled by the ongoing strike, to other banks will be foiled, said a spokesman for the United Forum of Bank Unions, which comprises several unions of bank employees. A decision in this regard was taken at a UFBU meeting on Thursday, he added.

Meanwhile, the striking SBI employees have stopped clearing operations, hitting hard four foreign banks and all seven associate banks. These banks have their clearing operations through SBI.

The spokesman claimed that the issues raised by the strike have received wider support from employees in the financial sector, including other banks, insurance companies and financial institutions.
