Industry Associations Nasscom for hybrid model for domestic market Our Bureau
Hyderabad , March 29 The Nasscom has called for a hybrid approach driven by innovation to unlock the potential of the domestic market. This is because the services market is heavily loaded in favour of exports and the huge latent domestic potential is barely tapped. The President of Nasscom, Mr Kiran Karnik, said innovation is often linked to products and product development but this need not be the case in the Indian context, as business imperatives are a lot different from other markets.
Policy concern
There is a need to create unique products and applications that suit distinct needs of small and medium sized companies. For instance, application service providers should concentrate on models that address the needs of a particular segment. Clusters of companies can benefit from technology where the charges could be transaction-based. This will bring down the overall costs for an organisation.
E-GOVERNANCE POTENTIAL
The Chief Executive Officer of National Institute of Smart Governance (NISG), Mr. J. Satyanarayana, said eGovernance, which has the potential to play a large role in the domestic market, is constrained by legal framework and lack of political will. The Chief Executive Officer of Xiotech, Dr Karl Schubert, said: "There is a need to bring in a sea change in the mindset in the way we approach the domestic market. If what started with the outsourcing trend a decade ago is any indication, there are signs to show that there is effort to bring in a healthy balance between the services and products model."
