Gautam Thapar likely to take over as BILT Chairman

New Delhi , March 24

Ballarpur Industries Ltd (BILT) may soon see a new Chairman in April. Mr Gautam Thapar, currently Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, is likely to take over as Chairman of the company from Mr L.M. Thapar.

The change of guard is likely to be approved at the company's forthcoming board meeting along with its third-quarter results.

Mr Gautam Thapar, who was earlier Joint Managing Director of BILT, was elevated to the post of Managing Director in 1999.

Mr L.M. Thapar, who is now over 75, has spent over four decades running the company.

With regard to Mr Gautam Thapar, his nephew, handling the day-to-day affairs of BILT, Mr Thapar had earlier told Business Line: "He is doing a damn good job; I give him full marks for operating in a far tougher environment today."
