`Bonus buying' props up Sterlite

Sterlite Industries Ltd was in action on Monday after investors rushed in to buy the company's shares ahead of the announcement of record date for the proposed 1:1 bonus share issue, dealers said.

They said the firming of copper prices in the international markets also helped the company to sustain the rally. The stock ended at Rs 1,471.10, an increase of 6.53 per cent from Friday's Rs 1,380.95 on the BSE. On the NSE, the stock rose 6.43 per cent to Rs 1,470 from the previous close of Rs 1,381.55. Over two lakh shares changed hands on the exchanges.
