New Projects States - Maharashtra Saertex sets up new facility in Pune Our Bureau
Pune March 20 Saertex, a player in the stitch-bonded fabric sector, has set up its Asia's first manufacturing plant at Hinjewadi in Pune. Headquartered in Germany, the company has six manufacturing facilities across the globe and the Indian facility is the seventh. Mr Marc Schrief, Global Sales and Marketing Director, Saertex, told newspersons that the Pune facility would be manufacturing glass-based stitch-bonded multiaxial fabrics, which would be utilised in the windmill and transportation industries initially. He said the plant would be fully operational by March 2006 and would be manufacturing about 6,000 tonnes of fabrics in the first year. The aim is to double the production by the second year, he said.

Platform for Asia
Mr P.K.C. Bose, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Saertex India, noted that the commercial production from the Pune plant would begin from April this year and would be the platform for the Asian markets. Currently, the markets of Asia Pacific and India were being catered to from the South African plant. He said that Saertex currently has about 45 per cent market share for stitch-bonded multiaxial fabrics in Asia.
Mr Bose said the plant would be fully operational by March 2006 and would have a strength of 35 people. He added that applications in other areas such as aerospace, automobiles, ship and boat building industries and infrastructure would be catered to at a later stage.
