Telecommunications Regulator spikes COAI response Our Bureau
New Delhi , March 17 The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Friday slammed the Cellular Operator's Association of India (COAI) for protesting the show-cause notice sent to six private operators for not adhering to quality of service norms. The telecom regulator said that it could not accept COAI's representation on behalf of the operators and was proceeding towards taking further legal action against them. In a strongly worded reply to COAI's protest letter, TRAI said the operators had more than one-and-a-half years' time to get the points of interconnection with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd in place and the present request for more time was "just a ruse to defer the matter." "These companies were given time of 10 days for submitting their reply. Till date none of them has submitted its reply . As the show-cause were issued to individual companies, the reply by COAI is not being considered ," said the TRAI letter. TRAI said the operators should have negotiated shorter time frame than specified in Interconnect Agreement.
