New Projects States - Maharashtra Haworth Inc inaugurates facility in Pune Our Bureau
Pune , March 17 Haworth Inc, designer and manufacturer of office furniture and workspace station today inaugurated its manufacturing facility in Hinjewadi in Pune.
Assembling unit
Talking to presspersons, Mr Richard G. Haworth, Chairman, Haworth Inc, said that the Pune facility has begun its initial operations in December 2005 and is already assembling chairs for the domestic market and had so far supplied around 6,600 chairs to the market.
Indigenisation plans
The plant has a capacity to assemble about 50,000 chairs per annum. At present, the parts were being brought in from its other locations. Mr Haworth said the company has invested close to $10 million in India on its Pune manufacturing facility and three showrooms in Mumbai, Bangalore and New Delhi. It also has plans indigenise its products. Mr Kapil Agarwal, Managing Director, Haworth India Pvt. Ltd, said that the manufacturing facility is spread over 65,000 sq ft area and occupied 3.25 acres. He said that the facility would also be looking at the Middle East markets for the exports of chairs.
ISO certification
According to Mr Kapil, the India facility is also expecting the ISO 14000 environmental certification by 2007. The facility has been designed as a `green building' and is also expecting the silver LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) in the next 12 to 18months.
