AirTight to expand Pune centre

AirTight Networks, provider of wireless perimeter security solutions, has today announced that it would be investing close to $12 million in the next 5 years at its Pune centre.

Talking to presspersons the President of AirTight Networks, Mr Kiran Deshpande, said the company has so far raised from venture capitalists funding of about $10 million and $12 million from the series A & B respectively.

Formed in the 2002, AirTight Networks is a privately-held company based in Mountain View, California. Mr Deshpande said currently its Pune centre undertakes activities such as research & development, 24X7 customer support, WiFi Planning Service, education and training for customers and partners along with the product deployment service.

He said the new investments would primarily be utilised for R&D, setting up of a testing lab, human resources and the business development effort. The company has so far invested $3.5 million in Pune centre.

Mr Dennis J. Tsu, Vice-President Marketing, AirTight Networks said the company has four products in its SpectraGuard family of products, which protect computers/networks from wireless threats. These products help in detecting, preventing and locating the wireless threats.

The SpectraGuard family consists of SpectraGuard Enterprise, which is aWi-Fi IPS firewall and performance management solution ideally suited for large networks, SpectraGuard Sentry is an affordable Wi-Fi IPS firewall for small businesses, SpectraGuard Safe for Laptops and SpectraGuard Planner for wireless LAN planning for performance, coverage and security.

While elaborating the potential for this technology Mr Tsu said that in the next three years close to 70 per cent companies in the US are expected to run on wireless networks. So far only five per cent of the large enterprises worldwide have deployed solutions that would help protecting their information from wireless threats.

The estimated potential for such products in US alone is close to $1.4 billion, as compared to $3 billion for the world market.

Channel partners

He said the company has identified India as an emerging market and is planning to appoint few channel partners in India in the next 6-8months.

The company currently has over 50 channel partners across the globe and plans to add 50 more in the calendar year 2006. He said it has also recently received a patent for their Wireless Intrusion prevention System from the US Patent and Trademark Office.

The patent granted by the USPTO covers technologies that are key elements of Wireless Intrusion detection or prevention. As of March 2006, he said AirTight employed over 130 employees with approximately 100 employees in India and 30 in the US. The headcount in Pune would go up to 130 in by the end of year 2006.
