Our Bureau

Bangalore, March 14

GAIL (India) has extended Rs 20-lakh assistance to set up an Air Pollution Related Diseases Diagnostic Centre (APRDDC) at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases Hospital. The centre would be an R&D outfit aimed at diagnosing diseases related to suspended particles in the environment. It has been set up in partnership with the Rajiv Gandhi Institute. To check the health hazards caused by vehicular emission and several other polluting agents, GAIL had come up with such a scheme of setting diagnostic centres, which would help in extending prompt treatment to affected people. GAIL has already set up ARDDCs in 22 cities as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative.Supply of CNG to the transport sector and piped natural gas for domestic and commercial usage in these cities is expected to reduce air pollution.
