Impact on couriers

The Government, it is reported, is proposing an amendment to the Post Office Act to make the Postal Department the exclusive carrier of postal articles weighing 500 grams and below. The private couriers will be hit if this monopoly were to be allowed to the Postal Department.

Further, this will be against the state policy of liberalisation, which was adopted to encourage competition. There is no doubt that this is a retrograde step and the public should oppose it.
