The additional 10 per cent capital subsidy under TUF scheme must be extended up to March 2007.
The list of processing machinery for additional capital subsidy must be enlarged.

Coimbatore , March 10

The garment industry in the country, which is going through a boom phase, could be roped in under the Centre's job guarantee scheme to provide assured employment for large part of the year at a salary higher than what has been provided under the government job guarantee programme, according to the Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA).

It also sought the extension of the Technology Upgradation Fund (TUF) scheme till 2010 due to its crucial role in helping the textile industry to go for large- scale modernisation.

In a memorandum submitted to Mr.D.P. Singh, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, during his visit to Tirupur on Friday, Mr.A.Sakthivel, President, TEA, said the textile sector was vibrant now and in view of the sustained growth in the number of people employed, it was in need of an attractive scheme.

The employment guarantee scheme could be extended to the garment export sector with riders like 200 days employment and daily wages of Rs 70.

Mr Sakthivel suggested that the additional 10 per cent capital subsidy under TUF scheme be extended up to March 2007 since this concession was provided for a limited period from April 2005-April 2006 and dyeing machinery was added to the list only in Oct 2005. He pleaded for enlarging the list of processing machinery for additional capital subsidy by including some key printing machinery and finishing equipment.
