GE Advanced Materials expansion plan

Preethi J

Bangalore , March 8

The US-based GE - Advanced Materials will be investing in a "significantly larger" facility to be located near Bangalore. The Advanced Materials business of General Electrics is part of the industrial business group, specialising in silicone-based products.

"The new facility will be significantly larger than the current one, in the manufacturing point of view," said Mr Wayne M. Hewett, President & CEO, GE Advanced Materials, US.

Mr Hewett declined to reveal investment in the potential facility. He said that the company was now exploring options and the final decision on the location would be made over the course of next 12 months. "In terms of future expansion, we are clearly looking at around Bangalore," added Mr V.P. Nalian, Managing Director, GE Bayer Silicones, India.

The company recently set up an application development centre, housed inside the John F. Welch Technology Center, GE's $80 million research and development hub in the city. The centre will offer customised silicone-based products, applications and services to customers in India and West Asia. The company plans to hire around 45 additional people for the new centre and are also adding technical service and sales people.
