PLL in talks with Aussie co for LNG

New Delhi , March 7

Petronet LNG Ltd (PLL), a joint venture promoted by Indian Oil Corporation, ONGC, GAIL (India) and Bharat Petroleum, is negotiating with LNG Liquefaction Project in Gorgon, Australia, to source liquefied natural gas (LNG) for its terminal at Kochi, Kerala.

The Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Mr Dinsha Patel, informed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that PLL is setting up the LNG terminal at Kochi.

The LNG receiving terminal has a requirement of 2.5 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA).

"Negotiations are currently on with the LNG Liquefaction Project in Gorgon, Australia, scheduled for commissioning in early 2010. PLL receiving terminal is also scheduled for commissioning in December 2009. Therefore, LNG for Kochi terminal would be received from Gorgon, Australia," he informed.

He, however, said that if there was any delay in commencement of supplies from Gorgon, PLL envisages diverting appropriate quantities of LNG from its Dahej terminal to the Kochi terminal.

The Kochi project is expected to be completed by December 2009.

At present, land for the project has been allotted; various pre-project activities have been completed; statutory clearances obtained and infrastructure-related work has started, he said.
