Second Malaysia-India economic meet in April `07

Kolkata , March 2

Malaysia is looking for opportunities for joint ventures and other forms of business co-operation with Indian business, particularly in software development and infrastructure (housing) sectors. Opportunities are also being explored for Malaysian products and services in the metros.

Speaking at an interactive session on `Building trade with Malaysia', organised by CII, Eastern Region, Mr Chua Jui Meng, Chairman of National SMI Consultative Center, Malaysia said that the time was ripe for establishing stronger economic ties between India and Malaysia.

Leading a 21-member Malaysian trade delegation to India, Mr Chua said that there was need for a continuous dialogue between the two countries.

He also said that the second Malaysia-India Economic Conference in April 2007 would play a big role in fostering bilateral trade relations.

Recalling the long-standing trade relations between the two countries, Mr Sanjay Budhia, Honorary Consul of Malaysia in Kolkata, said that though the current trade balance was tilted in favour of Malaysia, there was big potential for Indian companies in sectors such as palm oil refining, drugs and pharmaceuticals, textiles, power, railways, civil construction, training, and IT.
