Retailing States - Tamil Nadu Lifestyle opens another store in Chennai Our Bureau

Chennai , March 2 Lifestyle International, the retail chain of stores owned by Landmark Group, inaugurated its new store at the Chennai Citi Centre here on Thursday. Mr G. Sankar, Managing Director, Lifestyle, said at a press conference that the 75,000 sq ft store is the "largest department store in the country". He said an investment of about Rs 10 crore went into the store, and he expects a footfall of about 4,000-5,000 people everyday. The Chennai Citi Centre, in which a lot of other brands will set up shop, has a basement parking facility for 600 cars. The store is divided into three sections - circulation, retail, and Island, and will also include a Café Coffee Day to give the shoppers a break, he said. This is the company's tenth outlet in the country, which includes eight other retail stores, and one stand-alone store that caters to the home segment in Chennai, Delhi, Bangalore, Gurgaon, Delhi and Mumbai. The existing store in Chennai will be converted into another stand-alone store catering to the home segment. The Landmark Group has invested about Rs 130 crore in the retail segment in the country, and plans to increase this to about Rs 400 crore in two-three years. Mr Sankar said Landmark is also looking to enter the hypermarket segment in Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad within the next year.
