NMPT handles record iron ore fines

Mangalore , March 2

A record quantity of 32,499 tonnes of iron ore fines was loaded to m.v. Dubai Jewel at the New Mangalore port on February 28.

A press release by the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) said here on Thursday that this is the highest quantity of iron ore fines manually handled at the port in a day, surpassing the earlier record of 28,391 tonnes loaded to m.v. Namrun on February 15. The release said that a record quantity of 12,129 tonnes of iron ore fines was loaded to the ship in a single shift on February 28, surpassing its earlier record of 11,061 tonnes.

The port handled 5 million tonnes of iron ore fines during the current fiscal, the release added.
