Delhi airport new name registered

Ashwini Phadnis

New Delhi, Feb. 26

Work on the modernisation and restructuring of Delhi airport has begun with the name — Delhi International Airport Ltd — getting approved by the Registrar of Companies.

"Work has also started for registering the joint venture company. We are working on the Articles of Association," sources said. The bid for the modernisation of the Delhi airport was won by a consortium that includes GMR, Fraport (Frankfurt airport operator), Malaysia Airport and Airports Authority of India (AAI).

The new airport is likely to have four runways and a metro link is also planned to ensure that passengers can travel easily from the airport to the city centre. The first phase is expected to be ready by 2010 in time for the Commonwealth Games that are being hosted by the Capital.
