REAPING GAINS: Rice grains being winnowed at a paddy field in Kerala's Thrissur district. India dominates the global parboiled rice market along with Thailand. Rice acreage has increased to 22.79 lakh hectares in current rabi sowing against 19.57 lakh hectares last year. The kharif rice output has been estimated to be 73.83 million tonnes against 71.67 million tonnes last season. Exports during the first half of the current fiscal were 28.3 lakh tonnes valued at Rs 2,962 crore against 15.28 lakh tonnes worth Rs 1,660 crore last fiscal.
