Accidents States - Andhra Pradesh Fire breaks out in warship off Vizag coast Our Bureau
Visakhapatnam , Feb. 23 Three persons died and five sustained critical injuries in a fire which broke out on INS Magar, a warship of the Eastern Naval Command, off Visakhapatnam coast on Wednesday evening. A Ministry of Defence press release here on Thursday said there was no damage to the ship and she returned to the harbour in the evening. The injured were admitted to INHS Kalyani, the Navy hospital, and were being treated. Inquiry has been ordered into the incident, says the brief release.
THE VICTIMS
According to an FIR lodged with the Harbour police station, the three persons who died in the fire were Sheetal Das of Musheerabad district in West Bengal, Bhisham Singh of Kaithal in Haryana and Ashok Kumar of Buxar in Bihar. The incident had occurred 39 nautical miles off the coast around 4 p.m. while they were handling some ammunition. While the five critically injured are undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU), 15 others who suffered minor injuries are being treated in other wards of INHS Kalyani.
