Chennai , Feb. 23

NYK Shipmanagement Pte Ltd, a Singapore-based ship management company of the NYK Group, has tied up with two maritime institutes in India to train and recruit cadets.

Mr A.K. Atre, Managing Director, NYK Shipmanagement, told reporters here on Wednesday that the company has tied up with RL Institute of National Science, Madurai, and Tolani Maritime Institute near Mumbai.

NYK needs over 60 cadets - for engine room and deck - every year. These institutes will offer value-added courses following the tie-up, and NYK will give cadets additional training, Mr Atre said. NYK Shipmanagement has similar agreements with institutes in Croatia and Romania and its own training institutes in the Philippines and China, said Mr Atre.
